Prolonged oral glucose tolerance test (DFT)

Site(s) or Laboratory offering Test/Investigation

NNUH (Biochemistry)

Indications

This test is performed over 5 hours and helps to establish what happens to blood sugar levels after consuming a high volume of sugar

Comments/Precautions

Please refer to local trust guidelines for DFT protocols. Please ensure all timings are clearly labelled on every sample.

Storage conditions and sample stability between collection and transport to Lab

Send any insulin samples to laboratory promptly on ice. Please refer to the individual tests included in this dynamic function test for more information.

Sample type

Please refer to local trust guidelines for DFT protocols. Glucose samples must be taken into the Fluoride Oxalate tube and 1ml (min) required (Grey top). If insulin required too, collect a lithium heparin (green top) and bring to lab promptly on ice.

Turnaround times (TAT) Urgent/Routine/GP or OPD

Please refer to the individual tests included in this dynamic function test for turn-around times.
