Clinical Biochemistry

The Clinical Biochemistry Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is part of Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA), a network also involving the James Paget University Hospital, Gorleston and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn. The laboratory is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 15189:2012.

Microbiology

The Microbiology Department, based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) is part of the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA), a managed Pathology network involving laboratories at NNUH, the James Paget University Hospitals (JPUH) NHS Foundation Trust and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Kings Lynn. NNUH is the entity with legal responsibility for EPA. All Microbiology for the EPA is performed at the NNUH laboratory. The department is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 15189:2012.

Haematology

Blood Transfusion

The Transfusion Laboratory at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provides blood components for transfusion at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Cromer Hospital, Priscilla Bacon Lodge (NCHC, Spire Norwich, Bowthorpe Kidney service and Health Care at Home. They are also responsible for the supply of routine and prophylactic Anti-D, Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (Beriplex) and clotting factors.

The Transfusion Laboratory at the James Paget Hospital provides blood components for transfusion at the James Paget Hospital and Beccles Community Hospital. They are also responsible for the supply of routine and prophylactic Anti-D, Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (Beriplex) and clotting factors.

The Transfusion Laboratory at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital provides blood components for transfusion at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and North Cambridgeshire Hospital in Wisbech. They are also responsible for the supply of routine and prophylactic Anti-D.

Andrology

The three Andrology Departments that are based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn (QEHKL) are all part of the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) which is a managed Pathology network. The Laboratory’s services include Basic Semen Analysis, Post Vasectomy Semen Analysis and Vasectomy Reversal Semen Analysis.

Analytical Specialist Chemistry

The Analytical and Specialist Chemistry (ASC) department, formally the Toxicology & Endocrinology department, is a specialist area of the Laboratory. The department is split into four subsections; Toxicology, Endocrinology, Maternal Serum Screening (MSS) and the SAAS Bone Metabolism service.
