Indications

This test is performed to check how well peritoneal dialysis treatment is working. A Peritoneal Equilibrium Test (PET) is an assessment that shows how quickly the peritoneum processes the dialysate fluid.

Comments/Precautions

Please refer to local trust guidelines for DFT protocols. Please ensure all timings are clearly labelled on every sample.

Sample type

Please refer to local trust guidelines for DFT protocols Dialysis fluid samples: These are taken at 0, 2, and 4 hours and should be collected into White Top Universals Tubes and must be labelled with time of sample. Blood sample (collected at time point 2 hours): One lithium heparin sample (green top) and one fluoride oxalate (grey top) sample is required. Patient height (cm) and weight (kg), total exchange volume (kg) and overnight peritoneal dialysis volume (L) will also be required as part of the test.
