Indications
Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) adequacy test is performed to check how well peritoneal dialysis treatment is working. An Adequacy Test is an assessment of how well the peritoneum is removing toxins via the dialysis fluid. It shows how effective the dialysis is by assessing the clearance of toxins from dialysis treatment.
Comments/Precautions
Please refer to local trust guidelines for DFT protocols. Please ensure all timings are clearly labelled on every sample.
Sample type
Dialysis fluid samples: These are taken from used dialysis bags. Renal Unit staff will prepare these for testing (weight and bag number recorded). Blood sample: One lithium heparin (green top) sample and one fluoride oxalate (grey top) sample is required. 24-hour urine sample - record urine volume (L) and take an aliquot of urine collection into a White Vacuette tube. Patient height and weight will also be required as part of the test.
