Indications

Measurement of AAT is indicated in the investigation of chronic obstructive airway disease, emphysema and in neonatal and adult liver disease where low concentrations may have diagnostic importance. Note: A1AT is an acute phase protein and may rise during infection and mask an underlying deficiency.

Comments/Precautions

Low alpha-1 regions on electrophoresis will prompt a request for an A1AT level.
