Indications

β2-microglobulin is a component of the HLA Class I antigen complex. Serum levels rise due to high cell turnover in B cell malignancy and reduced excretion fin renal dysfunction. Measurement of β2-Microglobulin indirectly reflects tumour mass and renal function.

Comments/Precautions

Can be measured once pre-treatment for patients with confirmed myeloma. Repeat levels are not required
